FAQs
Is a LickiMat a chew toy?
Your LickiMat® is not a chew toy. Supervise and train your pet. Inspect for wear and tear and take away and replace if any piece becomes loose or detached. The product may not be suitable if your pet is a chewer. You should always consider a LickiMat Keeper™ for puppies and chewers, and always supervise them when using a LickiMat. For best results, seek advice from a professional animal trainer.
What can I spread on my cat's LickiMat?
Virtually anything your cat likes. You can improvise and experiment to your heart’s delight.
There is plenty of room on a LickiMat for you to spread different recipes to see what your pet likes best. Odds are high that they will like all of them because the treat is combined with a new licking experience. There is a Recipe page for all products.
What are the more popular spreads for my cat's LickiMat?
You can use the back of a spoon or a spatula to:
- Spread your cat’s favourite wet food on a LickiMat;
- Spread cream cheese, patés or yogurt on a LickiMat;
- Press fish into a LickiMat (Sardines, Tuna, salmon) - the oilier, the better;
- Press minced meat into a LickiMat;
- Spread nutritional gels on a LickiMat;
- Spread cooked egg on a LickiMat;
If your cat likes raw or cooked vegetables, you can spread them on a LickiMat (pumpkin, potato, kale, carrots).
If you are in a hurry or have run out of spreadable ingredients, you can crumble your cat’s favourite dry food and put it on a wet LickiMat.
You can pour chicken broth, bone broth or gravy on any LickiMat for a fun treat or in combination with anything else;
Some cat owners use probiotic milk on a LickiMat.
Some cat users put mix their cat's medication with treats on a LickiMat.

Where can I find recipes for LickiMats that my cat will enjoy?
You can click on the link here for the recipe inspiraton. There are also a lot of recipes on Instagram, twitter and social media posted by pet owners, dog trainers, pet shops, and vets.
Can I use the LickiMat as a feeder for my cat?
Absolutely. Cats prefer feeding off a LickiMat compared to feeding bowls. The Slomo™ is designed to be a combination wet and dry feeder.
Can I freeze a LickiMat?
Absolutely. You can freeze and stack multiple LickiMats to make it easier to pull one out when you need it.
If you store a LickiMat in the refrigerator, cover it with cling wrap to keep in the freshness.
Can I microwave a LickiMat?
Absolutely. You can microwave food and treats the way you would in any other dish. Remember to cover the LickiMat with cling wrap to stop sputtering. If you microwave minced meat, be careful not to spill any of the juices!
Can I cover the entire LickiMat?
Absolutely. The LickiMat is designed to be covered with spreadable treats all the way to the edge.
Please do not cover the entire LickiMat when you are first introducing the LickiMat to your dog or cat, and follow the instructions on the label or the training notes for each product on this website. You should start with small amounts of food and treat in the middle of the LickiMat.
You should generally not stack the treat too much higher than the mat for cats and small dogs. You can stack the treat higher the larger the size of the cat because of the correspondingly larger tongue, but generally no higher than twice the height of the mat.
Should I try more than one type of LickiMat with my cat?
Absolutely. The different surfaces suit different types of treats: slurry, solid, chunky, liquid and the like. The different surfaces also respond differently to pressure from your cat's tongue. You should experiment with the different surfaces: Buddy, Playdate, Soother or try combination surfaces such as Casper and Felix.
Will my cat chew the LickiMat?
It is very unlikely. Nearly all cats are interested in the food or treat, and not the rubber. Please make sure to have the correct food type on the LickiMat you are using. We have seen a few classic LickiMats with the corners showing chew marks. Owners of cats prone to chewing anything and everything should keep a close eye, or use the LickiMat Tuff or Slomo that has a Polypropylene base.
Can two cats share a LickiMat?
It depends on the cats, of course. There are many Instagram photos of multiple cats sharing a LickiMat, but you should always supervise your cats if they are not used to sharing treats or food. We have even seen cats and dogs sharing a LickiMat!
How do I clean the LickiMat?
Most LickiMats are dishwasher safe. Check the product page for your LickiMat to be sure.
The Classic LickiMats should be washed under the sink after every use. Scrubbing with a brush is not normally necessary. Shake off excess water and turn them over to let them dry naturally.
It is essential to dry the LickiMat after washing to remove any moisture.
